Buzzed by a Blue Angel
Oct 7th, 2007 by Ginger Wilcox
Yesterday was a fabulous day to set sail on the San Francisco Bay. We set out from the Sausalito harbor. Not a cloud in the sky and mild October temperatures set the stage for a gorgeous day.
This week is Fleet Week in San Francisco, which means parades of boats and the incredible Blue Angels. We motored out past the seals just as the Blue Angels lead plane hit the skies. We were front and center on the Bay when we heard the roar of the jet planes above our heads. All eyes scanned the skies and there they were- six blue planes in perfect synchronization- the world renowned Blue Angels.
The Blue Angels performed aerial acrobatics above the bay, frequently buzzing so close to our sail boat we could see the pilots. They would roar away and be hidden behind the Transamerica pyramid or the hills of Marin County until suddenly they were there again- passing each other upside down, doing corkscrew spirals in the air, and flying through the gates of the Golden Gate Bridge. It was an exhilarating show. Even the kids didn’t notice the roar of the planes- they were enthralled with the speed and agility of these beautiful planes.
At the end of the show, we headed back to the Sausalito harbor. It was the perfect day on the San Francisco Bay!

What an awesome day you had, Ginger! Your photos are fabulous and I loved the slideshow.
I love to read aboout the Blue Angels from other people around the country. Being home to the U.S. Naval Academy, we have a couple of their shows every year - one of the many things we take for granted, living where we do. When I see posts and videos like yours, I always get goose bumps and remind myself to pay attention next time…
I’m going to have to learn how to do those videos! Maybe in January, when things slow down.
Joanne- Thanks. It was a great day. I am glad you liked the pics!
Margaret- You are lucky to see them so often! The video is SUPER easy. Email me and I can tell you more!
I am jealous of your day. Sounds great! The Blue Angels are amazing to watch and I love the Bay area. I hope my wife and I can get back for a visit soon. Thanks for the nice blog..
Nick
Beautiful photos and what a glorious day you had. San Francisco is one of my favorite cities, particularly sitting with a Ghirardelli Hot Fudge sundae watching the world go by.
Nick- Don’t know if you know this, but I was born and raised in Arizona. I love it there too, especially as we get in to this time of year. Glad you enjoyed the post!
Rhona- I am sad to say that I have never had the joy of eating a hot fudge sundae at Ghiradelli. Isn’t that funny? I often avoid that area of SF because it is so touristy. I think I need some guests to come visit so I have an excuse. Yum!
San Francisco looks like a wonderful place to visit. Keep up the good local information for your readers. Great pics too!
Janis- San Francisco is a wonderful place to visit, and Marin County is a great place to live! It is so pretty here. Despite our close proximity to the city, it has the benefits of being a relatively small community. I am glad you enjoyed the pictures.
