Ginger, I hadn’t really thought about it, but no really is the time those camps start filling up. I actually had emails from a couple of places here in Birmingham that were advertising their programs today.

Thanks for the post! I am a Green MBA student at Dominican University and I am designing my masters thesis which is a green camp for kids. If you have kids between the ages of 10 and 14, I would love to interview you. Please contact me at theryan@gmail.com. And Thanks again for the post!

  7. GingerWilcox

Ryan, I personally do not, but I hope some of my readers do. We recently had some Green MBA Domincan students come in to green my office!

    Hi all,

I’m signing my kids up for summer camp at Dominican University. I sent my little boy and girl (ages 7 and 9) to the soccer and volleyball camps there last year. The camp is perfect for my work schedule because they are at camp from 9 to 4. I posted the link to the website below. My kids loved the Dominican camps and I will be sending them there again.

My son and daughter both have gone to the Marinwood Summer Camps in San Rafael for the past two years and I have been super impressed. They have the most caring staff, it’s affordable, and it’s by far the best “traditional” camp in Marin. I will also be sending both to Steve and Kate’s for a week or so but they love the staff at Marinwood and it’s a lot cheaper!

    Good Luck all!

    Carolyn & Emily,
Thanks for the great tips. So many of the camps are very high priced. It is nice to see some reasonable options. I know Marinwood has a great pool as well!

  11. Carolyn

For the camps at Dominican, they put the kids into the pool once a day for an hour. They have a gorgeous pool. We ended up becoming members of their pool. It is also nice to hear about the Marinwood camps.

My children tried Camp Doodles for the first time in 2007 (this will be their third summer attending (daughter too old now). They continue to sing the songs and are always delighted to see their favorite camp counselors while we are out shopping or walking our dogs.

I highly recommend Camp Doodles, especially families who have children in the upper grades. The field trip and biking options are awesome – my son’s favorite was the bowling and my daughter loved taking the Ferry to San Francisco (I think they went to a wax museum or something?).

If anyone knows of any sleep-away camps, my eldest (ent 7th daughter) has outgrown Camp Doodles and is looking for a place to go for a week, perhaps with some friends. Something with a similar feel and warm, loving atmosphere is preferred.

Try doodlebug in San Anselmo – all kinds of camps for children from 4 to adult. From pottery to glass fusing, sewing to jewelry-making – and they have classes during the year too.

Very disappointed in Steven/Kate’s last year. I remember when Steve himself (used to be at Tamalpais) would be always looking around to see what was happening- but no longer. Last summer the Bacich director would not come out from behind her computer to see what was happening. Teenage counselors were left to ineffectually “discipline” kids.

Does anyone know of a music camp in Marin county? I live in Ross and have a 12 year old who loves piano and guitar. Takes private lessons, but needs a summer camp experience with other kids who enjoy piano and guitar. I appreciate it. Helene Copperman, Ross

Riley Street art supplies on 4th Street in San Rafael is also holding camps and classes for preschoolers through elementary age children.

If you are looking for an art class for ages 4-6, check out Art for ME! It’s weekly class that offers unique art ideas taught by a former preschool teacher and mother of 3 boys. Children will explore color and self expression through various art projects with all sorts of materials.

It begins June 15, 2009. Low ratio. Discounts available.

Contact the Instructor, Chelsea Reyes, for more info, or visit the website. 415.328.3052

Our family loves Camp Doodles – the staff at Camp Doodles is awesome and the kids always have a blast…they come home singing songs and talking about the new friends they have made there.

We’re looking forward to going there all summer this summer. We received an email that over 50% of their kids have signed up for the entire summer, which is going to be a great way for my kids to make more friends.

I am the registrar for a wonderful camp in Nicasio, Camp at Devil’s Gulch Ranch. The campers take care of the farm animals each morning, explore the beautiful creeks and forests, and learn traditional skills, such as archery, blacksmithing and pottery. Pease call me if you are interested in learning more about this unique place!

Last I heard, Camp Galileo in Mill Valley and San Rafael still had space for last-minute campers. They aren’t a music camp but they are the most-attended summer camp in the Bay Area and offer a “learning-made-fun” (art, science & outdoors) experience for Pre-K through 5th graders. Good luck! http://www.galileo-learning.com

STARS Camp is offering a therapeutic day camp opportunity for children ages 4 – 17 years who experience peer isolation due to mild to moderate psychological, behavioral and social problems. It is a small, nurturing program for children who become overwhelmed and cannot integrate into other camp programs.

STARS Camp teaches your child how to adapt and grow socially, emotionally, and behaviorally, manage frustrations and anger, and develop social skills while enjoying a real camp experience.
