About Marin

Marin to the Ocean San Francisco Skyline

Marin County sits just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. It is just a hop away from the city by the Bay, San Francisco. Despite its close proximity to the city, Marin feels like a different world. It is bordered on three sides by water and has a variety of different outdoors spaces from redwood groves to salt marshes.

Over the last four decades, Marin County has taken extraordinary effort to protect its gorgeous open lands. Marin has national, state and county parks, as well as the Marin Open Space District governing public lands within this small county.

There are over 16,000 acres of public land and 50 separate parks & public preserves in Marin County. More than 50% of Marin County is protected open space, more than any other county in the Bay Area.

Whether it is bird watching, hiking, kite surfing, or a leisurely picnic- Marin is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts.
